An object is placed $30 c m$ in front of a concave mirror of focal length $15 c m$ . Find the image distance using the mirror formula.

Answer

$u = - 30 c m$ , $f = - 15 c m$ , so $v = - 30 c m$ . The image forms at the centre of curvature.

Solution

Using $\frac{1}{f} = \frac{1}{v} + \frac{1}{u}$ , $\frac{1}{v} = \frac{1}{- 15} - \frac{1}{- 30} = - \frac{1}{30}$ . Hence $v = - 30 c m$ .
